Hi Guys, I hope you people aren’t Bizzzy
because wow I got an update for you. If haven’t already read my previous blogs
recently I have been reading a book called The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk
Kidd. The book is set in the 1960’s era American South. It details about this
young 14-year-old girl named Lily and the adventure she goes through after
leaving her caring free father. The escape from captivity of a miserable life
allows Lily to go on a road of a self-discovery of her past and more on about
her deceased mother. Today’s blog is
basically my reflection on this very entertaining book.
What I personal learnt from the book Secret
Life of Bees is that you must always be willing to take risks. Trying something
new is one thing but putting yourself in situations where tests your character
is another. From I the book I learnt that a person must always be willing to
take risks in order to survive in this harsh world. Another thing I learnt from
reading this book is that always take care of the people who are close to you
whether they are friend or family. Its because they are always there for you
when you are in need and will always cheer you up when you are feeling
down.
What I enjoyed about the book is that it
really emphasizes on family and makes people think about their own. Lily didn’t
have a mother to help her grow up instead she gone through her childhood by
having an abusive father and somewhat mother like figure. This affected her way
of life and with that I really appreciated the fact that I still have mine and
that my family is not drifting apart anytime soon. The other thing about this
book, which I enjoyed, is that it talks about love. Myself not really an expert
on the topic I enjoyed reading about the willingness of two people and how far
they would go for each other despite how society is against them being
together.
It
also gives more light on the perspective of a very disregarded side at the
time. Readers may not think about this but the quotes at the beginning of each
chapter is a really nice touch to immerse one self into what is the chapter is
really about.
There is not many things I disliked about
this novel other than I really wished there would be more light on T-Ray’s
situation because the book only emphasizes mostly on his rough nature and very
little on his soft side. I would really like if the authors detailed more about
this to give a more emotional effect on and less biased view towards T-Ray.
I would gladly recommend this to other
people because not only it takes one back in time but also sheds light on how
life is back then. The book is a drama that makes one think more on about life
on how we should appreciate it. I really want you guys to read this amazing of
a book. This is Mika and please do read more on my upcoming blog. ;)
