The Festive Ones

Hey guys today me and my group are doing something that we all love and things that we do in a daily basis. The topics are white people during the 1960s, clothing, food, music, and tradition. I don’t mean 1960s is your daily basis but the 4 topics which I just said just now. Anyways Layla our only girl in our group is doing music, Zahir is doing two topics which is clothing and tradition and lastly me I am doing the best thing ever which is FOOD!!

Since I am doing about food I’m going to start first. So my topic is FOOD and I have to find the food that is made by the white people based of the book. There are many foods told inside the book but since I am doing the whites I have to pick the only food that the whites have made. The most common food that the white people made was pancakes. But there are still more I have a list of them:
Text Box: Banana cream pie Text Box: Pimiento Cheese Sandwiches Text Box: Honey Cake Text Box: Pancakes

These food are made by the white people based on the book. But there are still more food that’s made by the whites.

During the sixties, the economic boom that began during the previous decade continued for the most part. With more people benefiting from prosperity and the culture moving further away from the idea of post-war rationing, the way a lot of people interacted with fashion began to change.

Clothing mentioned in the Secret Life of Bees novel:

Yes, this kind of fashion emphasize the beauty of legs. As people tend to have more decoration in their fashion during the fifties, they are quite the opposite in the sixties. Less means more and better.

Twinsets are therefore ideal both on warm summer evenings and in cooler autumn weather. Twinsets are more elegant than pullovers yet equally as comfortable.

3) Pentecostal Dress
The Pentecostal began in the early 20th century as an offshoot of the Methodist-Holiness movement of the late 19th century. Pentecostals' expectations of women's attire vary greatly. In most classical Pentecostal churches, any reasonably modest attire is considered acceptable. Usually they expect women to wear knee length or longer dresses or skirts but, not pants.

Other Type of Clothing in the Sixties: Hippie Fashion
Image result for hippie fashion 1960sThe hippie fashion emerged from the West Coast culture of the United States and spread throughout the country from the mid-sixties onward. The style featured long "maxi" skirts, bell-bottomed jeans, flowing fabric tops, peasant blouses, paisleys, florals, bright tie-dyes, and Eastern, Indian, Native American, and African motifs. Some says that this fashion’s inspiration is the pop art movement.

So, for this task, i am in charge to write on music of white people in The Secret Life Of Bees. Music is a part of life. Imagine our life without it. This world will be the dullest and boring for a living. There are so many reasons why we hear to a song. Maybe the song can calm our self or also portray the feeling of yours at that time. In this novel, there's just a little bit of music that the writer impose. There is one part where May thought Lily a honey song which Lily love it so much. She loves the silliness of the song even though the song is funny and not logic where the person asked to place a beehive on his grave when he died so that the honey will soak through the grave. Lily thought that singing can calm her heart and turn her mood to feel like a normal person. As the song was composed by the writer herself, so i don't know what style and type of music the song belongs to. The popular music style during that era is more to jazz, bossa nova and also rock indie band. This styles show that the people at this era also use music as an entertainment to release stress and also to portray their feelings. Music is a way to describe yourself. Our preference on type and style of music show our inner part.

  1. I really love the way white people got dressed in this era because I really love vintage kind of style. The female clothes really showed the feminine side of women - light colours, floral patterns and peasant blouses compared to women nowadays who sometimes only wear tshirts and jeans.
